P4

One thing I hope to achieve at University is improving my skills that I need extra help with and others that I am lacking in and need to have in order to get a job I want. My course I am hoping to take focuses more on the conceptual design areas of the game as well as some 3D aspects that can be used to help when we create pieces of work. I already have previous knowledge in 3D modelling on software's like Maya and Blender, and I am knowledgeable with my use of digital drawing software's and digital drawing tablets. I will work especially hard to improve my hard skills that I am lacking, which i have discussed in P2, learning to enhance my abilities with digital drawing and photo editing. These skills are important for entering the games industry. Learning to draw in different styles and drawing from others ideas are extremely important to learn if you want to be a concept artist as well as the games industry. I want to be able to draw to meet the standards of what companies require as well as having my own style that I can draw and create with separately for my own personal work.

One of my biggest weaknesses is my lack of confidence, I never think my work is good enough which always leads me to spending too much time on it. To improve this I will have to work hard on my drawing skills, improving on the small areas of drawing that I feel I really lack in, such as drawing eyes or hands, until I feel like I have a better understanding of how to draw them. I will also get others to look at my work and see if their critiques match mine. This will help me to see that I am looking too closely at my work.

During the summer of 2021 I am planning on getting work experience at a game production company. Work experience is important to me so I can really get an idea of the sort of environment I might be working in in the future. Not only is work experience good for getting an idea of the environment you'll be working but it's also a good time to get references that can be used for later job interviews.

 Contingency Plan:

If I don't get the grades that I require to get into the university of my choice I will instead go straight to the work experience part of my plan as well as taking art classes in my own time. I will overtime begin to develop a portfolio of my work which I can then use to get a job at a games company. This backup will be a lot more difficult to achieve and could probably take longer, but I still leaves me with a chance of getting the job I want.
